Step by Step Ordering Process
1. Choose Plaque Dimensions – Not sure of the size? We offer guidelines to how many letters and lines you can have when choosing specific sizes in the order screen.
2. Choose Material and Process
Cast Bronze Plaques: These are the most traditional type of plaques. The letters are raised and are bronze in color while the background has a painted contrasting color. Cast Bronze Plaques do come with font size and stroke restrictions. The minimum font height is .25″ in all capital letters or .375″ in upper and lower case letters.
Tooled Bronze Plaques: Sometimes certain details can not be cast and in these cases it is sometimes possible to use the tooled bronze method. In this process, the plaque begins with a solid piece of metal that is then machine tooled. The results are an almost identical looking cast bronze plaque, but with the ability to accommodate finer details.
Aluminum Plaques: These plaques offer a much lighter plaque, as well as a less expensive one! Aluminum Plaques are beautiful and look especially good with a black background and gloss clear coat. If you are looking to have a painted plaque, then aluminum plaques are what you would want to choose.
Flash Bronze Aluminum Plaques: For those who want a bronze looking plaque, but do not have the budget to pay full price, you can choose a flash bronze aluminum plaque. These plaques are made out of aluminum and then a special glaze is added at the end to give it a bronze appearance. There is a color difference between authentic bronze and flash bronze, so we do not recommend displaying these plaques side by side. Also, these plaques are not weather proof and are meant for indoor use only.
Etched Plaques: Cast plaques come with strict restrictions on font sizes, logos, and fine details so in cases where smaller letters or detailed logos are required we offer etched plaques. An etched plaque offers all of the same benefits of a cast plaque and are just as beautiful. The difference is that etched plaques have painted recessed letters and the background is either bronze or aluminum.
Thin Gauge Plaques: There are certain scenarios that our standard depth cast plaques are too thick, such as plaques for a park bench, or in cases when the plaque can not protrude too much. In these instances, many of our customers choose a thin gauge plaque. These plaques utilize the tooled method and are typically less expensive than cast plaques.
3. Choose Finish – Most plaques come with a brushed finish. If you are looking for an upscale and fancier looking plaque we do offer a polished finish. Note: If you choose a polished finish then we recommend choosing a Gloss Clear Coat.
4. Choose Background Color – The traditional background colors are Black, Dark Oxide, Brown and Duranodic Bronze. We also offer a wide assortment of other background colors too. Below are some of the most common colors, but other colors are available.

BAS Reliefs are a traditional way of placing a portrait onto a cast plaque. An artist will take your photo and create a 3D model of your portrait out of clay. This model will then be used to cast the image which will then be mounted to your plaque. BAS Reliefs can come in heights from 6″ to 12″ and usually has a depth up to 1″. This process takes about six weeks to complete due to the artist’s sculpting and proofing process with the customer.

Flat Reliefs offer a less expensive way to incorporate a portrait onto a plaque; however, the image is flat and many of the details of the photo are lost. This process works best when a portrait has good characteristics of the person, but in some cases this process may not truly capture the person’s likeliness.

Etched Photos are a great way to add a picture to a plaque with an almost exact replica of the photo provided. It is important to have photos with high quality and good contrast. We often remove the background from photos to make the person stand out. This process actually attaches an etched photo plaque right onto the cast plaque.

Giclee Prints are an economical way to attach a photo or logo right onto the plaque. Although they can be done in full color, we often use this process to print intricate logos onto a plaque which offers a more affordable option. Giclee prints do come with a warranty; however, outside use of plaques with Giclee Prints have a limted 10 year warranty.

For customers who need a cast bronze plaque with an intricate logo we offer etched plaque inserts. We will make an etched plaque with your logo and then have that inserted into the plaque. This is very common and is used with state seals on government plaques, such as in court houses.

INTEGRATED LOGOS & EMBLEMS. We have the capability to add a custom emblem or logo to your plaque in two different ways; The plaque can be made with the emblem or logo as a part of the plaque. Detail is somewhat limited by the manufacturing process. The second way is a separate etched piece attached to your plaque. this process has nearly no detail restrictions; however, additional charges will apply.
ETCHED – The etching process allows you to forever replicate your photograph, line drawing or complex artwork. This method utilizes a halftone dot pattern made from a 50-line screen. Halftone portraits resemble newspaper photographs, and have visible dot patterns. The etched recessed dots are black ink filled to contrast with the brushed finished metal background background. The best photographs for halftone etched portraits have high contrast tones with bright white areas, dense black areas and minimal grey tones. Photos that are monotone or have muted colors will produce poor halftone etchings. Halftone etchings are available in stainless steel, bronze, brass and copper.
THIN GAUGE PLAQUES – Our thin gauge plaques are a lower cost option than chemical etching. Our precision milling of aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, stainless steel & zinc produces high quality plaques in 1/8″ thick material. These plaques have the same lifetime warranty as our other plaques. Consider this alternative when you normally would look to an etched plaque, but do not need halftone or photographic detail. This option provides a significant cost savings.ETCHED PLAQUES ARE MADE FROM METAL SHEET STOCK THAT IS ALWAYS LEAD AND MERCURY FREE.The chemical etching process allows us to reproduce even the most complex artwork onto the surface of the metal. When used in combination with our cast plaque lines, our etched medallions and emblems provide the precision needed to accentuate the perfect plaque or marker. We can etch Brass, Bronze, Copper and Stainless Steel in varying gauges and dimensions.
